Educating the world, one film at a time…
Past Projects & Contract Work
From 2016-2018, Summer worked as a Media Coordinator at the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes, producing high-end research translated videos.
The National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes is a technical assistance and dissemination center funded by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). Our mission is to support postsecondary outcomes for individuals who are deaf, deafblind, deafdisabled, hard of hearing, or late deafened. We seek to create conditions for optimal success in a way that recognizes and honors the experiences, perspectives, and strengths of deaf individuals. Revive ASL Literature
As a teacher for Deaf Adult learners and having a deep appreciation for sign language literature, Summer collaborated with other Deaf educators on ways to expose students to both ASL and English literacy, through video storytelling and production. She has presented on this topic at language and literacy conferences, including Symposium about Languages and Society, Austin and American Sign Language Round Table.

Social Justice Education and Community Projects
"The Freedom Signers: Confessions of Room #316"
A student documentary about Social Justice "The Freedom Signers" is a collection of personal confessions told in ASL by a diverse group of Deaf teenagers. After witnessing several acts of prejudice, (based on race, gender, and hearing status) these students share their observations in their ASL journals. Much like the Freedom Writer's Diary, each student took up the courage to reveal their most private thoughts and experiences in relation to social injustice. After discovering that they are not alone, these Freedom Signers analyze the world's facts/statistics related to oppression and share ideas on how to change the world. |
